What a shitty night. Rain. Wind. Freezing cold. But at least we had 10 runners with the intestinal fortitude to actually turn up and face the daunting prospect of a run in abysmal conditions. The numbers were low but not in fact a record low. Perusal of the records showed that on Monday May 22, 1983 there were only 8 runners. But run we did.
At 6.11 pm the 10 braced themselves with multiple layers of thermals, weatherproof jackets, beanies and large umbrellas. As the rain was torrential and showed no sign of easing the runners took of along the driveway, and were met with a total lack of marks on Maple Drive; apparently the run had been set in chalk and was no longer visible. Duh! A discussion was then entered into and a majority decision reached; we went round the telephone pole at the front gate and returned down the driveway to the shelter of the back verandah and the comfort of the esky. It was noted that Corgy was seen to take the short cut and didn’t go round the pole!
Then followed the Club Song sung first, a few charges , a couple of jokes and then a great feed- nibbles, chilli con carne and rice, bread and butter, chockie bikkies and a few more drinks. Then it was time; I could hear the electric blanket calling . It was a no brainer; I went home.
Cheers . Prick.
