The sky looked promising for an outdoor run venue so 17 or so runners showed up behind the old Info centre at City Gates. Insex, with a returning runner as well as a newbie from her Big-O party, and Snot were official welcomers as the rest of us arrived in dribs and drabs. There was a flurry of excitement when Corgi and Daffodil parked and immediately rushed off with gloves, buckets, disinfectant and sponges to prepare the eating area after its use by some very grubby homeless druggies. Luckily Daffodil had discovered the mess when he’d come earlier to mark the trail.
An impatient Trail Master set us off by 6:03; keen to join Zorro at the conveniently near-by pub? Great trail, well marked, lovely botanical gardens, setting a difficult future (?) benchmark of (officially) 4.25km. Crackers and dips devoured, circle called, Space (outer) the Monk’s topic. The length of a day on Neptune prompted a lively auction eventually sold to…???
Charges were a little slow in coming but plenty of down-downs: birthday girl with return runner, new runner, returning runners Maple and Prick. Good jokes told and read. Corgi and Daffodil’s hot (how do they do it so well?) Spag-Bog followed by Tim Tams and Tawny Port completed a great feed, under lights with no rain on a clean table (Barring a few lines of smutty language Tarzan pointed out impossible to clean off.)
Several runners left straight after the feed, but the hard core either sat chatting or headed to Termite’s well positioned car for a final ale and didn’t return??!?? What happened??? Heroically, the boozers had rescued Termite’s car from drowning in the icy water from his bung-less esky! So a few more laughs before we all hit the roads home.
